Deliver data products that actually get used.

Most technology initiatives fail the same way: built around the tools and the data, not the people who need to use them. The result is software nobody opens, dashboards nobody trusts, and systems that get worked around rather than worked with — a problem that's only getting harder as organizations adopt AI-driven and agentic tools that need trust to work at all.

We've worked across technology, government, climate, public health, and food security — including recent work helping an AI-native product make its models' cost and performance tradeoffs legible to the people who have to act on them. The pattern holds regardless of the tool: organizations that invest in discovery and design before they build win leaps and bounds over those that don't.

We help organizations get it right from the start — designing data products and technology solutions grounded in a deep understanding of your users and what they actually need to accomplish. The result is solutions that are faster to build, easier to adopt, and sized to what you actually need.

About

Why Deft exists

Deft was founded after 15 years of watching the same problem play out across very different organizations.

The tools get built. The dashboards go live. And then nobody uses them.

It's rarely a technology problem. It's a product problem — the users weren't involved early enough, the design didn't map to how decisions actually get made, and by the time anyone realized it, significant time and money had been spent.

We've worked across technology, government, climate, public health, and food security — and that pattern is consistent regardless of sector, budget, or team size. Deft exists to disrupt it.

That pattern is showing up again with AI. Agentic tools and AI-generated recommendations promise to remove work from people's plates — but when users can't tell why a system did what it did, or whether to trust it, adoption stalls the same way it always has. We help teams design for that trust gap before it becomes a launch problem.
